Frequently Asked Questions
Q: If, for some reason, you are not able to purchase the church, what will happen to the donated funds?
A: If this were to happen, we plan to donate all funds to local pregnancy care centers. The centers we have decided on are Pregnancy Center Plus, Pregnancy Center West, Old St. Mary's Pregnancy Center, and Women's Care Center.
Q: What price were you given for the church?
A: We are still waiting on an official price due to the processes that must take place within the parish family and Archdiocesan finance councils. However, in informal discussions with parish and diocesan leaders, we have been informed that the asking price will likely be around 2 or 2.5 million.
Q: Will you continue fundraising after the church is purchased?
A: Yes! We will need to take care of some deferred maintenance, and also because there are some projects we would like to do in order to better facilitate turning the church into a shrine for the victims of abortion. After that, there will always be general upkeep and utility costs, so we will always need donations.
Q: Deferred Maintenance has frequently been mentioned in discussions about the church. Can you elaborate on that?
A: There is quite a bit of repair work that will need to be done. The whole building needs to be tuckpointed, and the roof needs some repair. Because these issues were put off, there is some significant water damage in the stairwell behind one of the sacristies. We've been told that the boiler needs repair, but we are not sure of the extent. Some of the concrete steps on the property are beginning to crumble at the edges. These are the main issues we know of right now.
Q: What do you have in mind when speaking of a "Shrine for the victims of abortion"?
A: A few ideas we have are to have a memorial garden where grieving mothers/families can place a memorial stone in honor of their child(ren) lost to Abortion. We also would like to have a statue of Our Lady during her pregnancy, with a plaque that says "Blessed is the Fruit of your womb". There are two alcoves/side altars in the church, one of them will have an image of the Divine Mercy, with the words "Neither do I condemn you", while the other will have Our Lady of Guadalupe with the words "Am I not here? I, who am your mother?"
We want this shrine to be a beautiful place where the surviving victims of abortion- the mothers, fathers, family members, and abortion workers- can find mercy, hope, and healing. We are hoping to have more details and visualizations on the future plans for the shrine, as well as for the deferred maintenance/repairs, as soon as we can work out some details.
